Winter 2020/21 Remote Trainings
To respond to training requests identified by Community Mentors during the pandemic, remote training supports were a key touch point for Community Mentors to stay connected to children and youth in their communities, while demonstrating care in facilitating modified programming.
Facilitated by Indigenous & Northern Mentor Coordinator with #Rising Youth, Beth Hudson, this session covered:
- Physical literacy in Indigenous youth programming
- Land-based programming and traditional sports
At this session, Community Mentors learned about:
- Available resources to support them in running a remote and physically distanced program
- Gained support to implement new resources in their programs
- Networked with other Community Mentors from across Turtle Island
This session focused on:
- Validating and acknowledging the mental wellbeing impacts of working remotely
- Holistic strategies to manage stress and create a plan for a healthy work/life balance
This training encouraged participants to explore:
- Building up their tool kit to support children and youth as they learn coping skills
- How to identify and cope with stress
- Practical ways to help youth cope with stress in daily programming
This interactive session was all about creating opportunities for CMs to:
- Learn about what high performance sports can teach us about life skill planning
- Create more focused sport time that builds on youth life skills
